Our Story
Welcome to the Northern College of Clinical Hypnotherapy—a place born from a profound desire to heal, empower, and transform lives. Our journey, led by Amanda Joy, the founder, is one of personal growth, professional passion, and a deep commitment to helping others find their own paths to healing.
Amanda Joy’s journey began many years ago while working in the NHS, specialising in pain management. Her experience caring for clients with complex needs, like quadriplegic individuals who suffered from unexplainable neurological pain, highlighted the limitations of conventional medicine. One patient’s words, “When you give me those medicines, it doesn’t stop my pain; it just stops me from being able to tell you I’m in pain,” became a pivotal moment, sparking a desire to explore more holistic approaches to health.
Driven by this need for a more comprehensive method of care, Amanda immersed herself in various holistic therapies, including NLP, Reiki, and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Her work with terminally ill patients and those struggling with mental illness further revealed the gaps in our healthcare system, particularly the neglect of mental and emotional well-being.
During this exploration, Amanda Joy encountered a clinical hypnotherapist whose work with trauma survivors profoundly impacted her. Inspired by the power of the mind and the potential of hypnotherapy, Amanda Joy’s path took a new direction. However, despite her professional success, Amanda faced her own battles with emotional pain, addiction, and the scars of past trauma. It was through hypnotherapy that she found her way back to herself.
Amanda Joy trained under renowned hypnotherapists Angela Glasgow and Brian Glenn, rediscovering the transformative potential of hypnotherapy—not just as a healing tool for others, but as a crucial part of her own recovery. This experience reignited her passion for helping others and laid the foundation for what would become the Northern College of Clinical Hypnotherapy.
